Microdermabrasion-What is it? Want to know the benefits?
May 25, 2017
Microdermabrasion is definitely one of today’s most “trending” skin treatments. Microdermabrasion is a unique skin treatment, which most clients prefer over other skin treatments/procedures. It requires no anesthesia or numbing cream and has quick recovery time.
Microdermabrasion is a skin resurfacing treatment in which utilizes a stream of micro-crystals projected onto the skin and then vacuumed away. This non-invasive skin treatment removes dead and flaking skin and stimulates the production of young skin cells and collagen. If you love that soft, squeaky clean, non residue feeling, this is definitely for you!
Your skin may be flushed for a few hours after but the benefits are well worth it. Microdermabrasion has been given the nickname “lunchtime facelift”. If you have a busy schedule and don’t have time to get deep chemical peels or laser therapy, you are the perfect candidate!
This skin treatment is ideal for:
• Minimizing fine lines and wrinkles
• Dehydration/Coarse Texture
• Addressing hyper-pigmentation problems
• Age spots/Dull Skin tone
• Acne and chicken pox scars
• Enlarged Pores
• Stretch marks
• Improving Skin Tone
• Correcting Skin damage
• Leaving the skin feeling smooth, soft and renewed
Microdermabrasion is great for so many people !

Hydrating vs. Moisturizing
May 15, 2017
Do you know the difference between hydrating and moisturizing? Do you think there’s even a difference? Well there is!
As an Esthetician, this may be one of the top questions my clients ask me, “what’s the difference between hydrating and moisturizing?”
Ever feel like your skin needs a gulp of water? Well your body is actually telling you something!
While hydration is what makes our skin soft, it won’t stay soft without oils. Now this doesn’t mean just add oil to dry, flaky skin and your problem is solved; doing that will just smooth over the top layer and not prolong your skin to being soft. Also, just putting lotion on top of flaky skin will still give you the same outcome; your skin will still look dull and feel tight.
So what now? Now you know the basic understanding of hydrating vs. moisturizing, but how do you fix your problem? There are endless products for hydrating/moisturizing. Choosing the right skincare product is crucial for keeping that elasticity and soft skin on a daily basis.
READ THE LABEL! Just as you would read a nutrition label, you should also read the label on your skincare products. Knowing what goes in your body as well as on top of your skin keeps you and your skin healthy.
When looking for hydrating skincare products the number one ingredient to look for is hyloronic acid. Hyloronic acid can hold a thousand times it weight in water; so therefore it plumps your cells to keep your skin hydrated.
When looking for moisturizing products DON’T shy away oil! Oil free products may not always be the best, having oil in your products may be your best option. The number one ingredient when you’re looking at moisturizing products is Ceramides. Ceramides are a no brainer! To have that instant glow within and to relieve dry itchy skin, look for ceramides as an ingredient. Ceramides are fats found naturally in the skin. The sole purpose of Ceramides are to seal in water so skin cells don’t dry out and to reinforce the skins natural moisture barrier. Talk about retaining your moisture!
When’s the best time to put on a hydrating/moisturizing product? Right after the shower! After a freshly washed face apply your facial oil or lotion/cream to damp skin. Your skin will absorb faster since your pores will be open from the hot steam in the shower.

What to expect with your first facial
April 29, 2017
We have all heard of the luxuries of getting a facial and know you’ve finally wanted to try one yourself! Yes, there are many ways to give yourself a mini spa day at home but until you are in the hands of a professional you may never really understand how wonderful it may be. Facials are not only relaxing they are very beneficial to your skin. Everyone has very different skin types and textures. Therefore, instead of doing a treatment yourself, going to an Esthetician whom knows how to revive your skin back to new is a must!
When you arrive for your facial, expect to fill out an intake form. Coming in 10 minutes prior to your appointment allows time for you to fill this form out without interfering with your appointment time of service. This will let the professional know exactly what medications you take, what type of skin type you have and so forth. This gives them a clear image for which products they will use.
Before your facial begins, expect to change. No you are not getting a massage but you will want your collar bones and shoulders free of bra straps, clothing and jewelry since the treatment usually extends down to the décolleté area.
Expect to communicate your needs and wants. Yes, you filled out a form but talk to your Esthetician about your concerns. This could be anywhere from existing problems to current issues or product concerns and etc.
Once you’re laying down to begin your facial, expect to be informed about your skin and treatment. Even though your Esthetician has you information, they still examine your skin under a magnifying lamp to see exactly how your skin is on that day and at that time of service. Your facial will include cleansing, exfoliation, treatment masque, extractions (if necessary), and a facial massage. They will then express their concerns and go forth on telling you exactly what products and what type of treatment is best for your facial.
RELAX! Expect to relax and enjoy your service. This is your time to get pampered. Every treatment is different but is also very customized!

WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT CUPPING THERAPY?
July 10, 2017
This form of alternative medicine has been around over 3,000 years and has tremendous benefits! Yes you may have seen some interesting photos of Cupping if you have ever searched the term through Google, but don’t let that turn you away!
Cupping Therapy is an alternative medicine in which a therapist places small glass, bamboo, earthenware, or silicone cups/jars onto your skin for a certain amount of time to create suction in specific spots. Cupping Therapy is great for clients who enjoy deep tissue massage.
Cupping benefits include:
• Blood disorders (anemia and hemophilia)
• Rheumatic diseases (arthritis and fibromyalgia)
• Fertility and Gynecological disorders
• Skin problems (eczema and acne)
• High Blood Pressure
• Anxiety and depression
• Bronchial congestion caused by asthma and allergies
• Varicose veins
The most common types of Cupping Therapy are Dry cupping and Fire Cupping. Dry cupping can involve cups that include a vacuum and mechanical suction pump acting as a valve through the top of the cup. With dry Cupping, low air pressure can also be created with a heated cup.
This brings up Fire Cupping! Fire cupping involves lighting a cotton ball that is soaked in alcohol. While the cotton ball is lit and held by thongs, it is quickly placed into the cup until the fire goes out. The cotton ball is quickly removed and the cup is placed onto the skin. The suction is created by the fire heating the inside of the cup, once the cup is placed onto the skin the air starts to cool down.
During Cupping Therapy, some therapists keep the cups’ suctioned and slightly drag from one place to another to break down muscle fiber.
Some people also get “needle cupping,” in which the therapist first inserts acupuncture needles and places cups overtop of the needles.
All types of Cupping involve suction to specific parts of the skin, for a couple minutes at a time, with different size/material of cups.
So the markings you may see in pictures are just a result of the suction. The suction is your blood vessels expanding.
Common markings may be a red ring that disappears quickly, and discoloration from slight bruising. Most clients see markings fade or disappear under 10 days. Cupping Therapy is non invasive and a painless treatment.

TIPS FOR CONTROLLING BREAKOUTS
June 29, 2017
As soon as we all are comfortable with our skin or have a busy schedule, our little pimple friend loves to emerge at the worse time. There are many reasons in which we can breakout, but here are some tips on how to control your breakouts.
“You are what you eat” We have heard this saying dozens of times but it’s closer to the truth than you may realize. Breakouts can be caused by an unhealthy diet. Maybe you decided to splurge for a week or two, on foods that have a higher fat and sugar content. Your skin can react to certain foods and cause breakouts. So eat those vegetables!
Reduce your stress. This may seem impossible to most but find hobbies/activities to do to relieve your stress. Stress puts a lot of strain on your body and it causes different symptoms for everyone; yet breaking out from stress is very common. In need of a massage? Schedule with us to ease your stress for the day
Avoid the cake! We all are guilty of trying to cover up our breakout with any foundation, concealer or powder that will make it disappear. Everyone gets breakouts, don’t be embarrassed! Try to avoid doing this next time and let your breakout heal without drenching it in makeup and clogging your pores more.
Drugstore topical treatment- Try a topical treatment that’s over the counter to save money and that includes 10% benzoyl peroxide. Use a pea size amount over the blemish and let dry. Best if used when you are about to go to bed. This will dry out the blemish, but be careful not to add topical treatment to parts of your face that do not have blemishes; this can dry out your face and remove the oils your face needs to not become overly dry.
Speaking of dry skin, MOISTURIZE! Many people whom have acne or get breakouts frequently do not moisturize their skin. When you don’t moisturize your skin, your skin becomes very dry and your skin will then over produce oil to hydrate. This causes your pores to become clogged, which then causes a breakout. Comment below if you are looking for suggestions on moisturizers that are affordable for your skin type!
Try any new products lately? Have you purchased any new products that contact closer towards or on your skin? (perfume/sprays, facial mists, new face products, hair spray) You may breakout from a new product! Try not using that product for a week and see if that helps your breakouts

Guide to Healthy Summer Skin!
June 17, 2017
We all love to be tan and we all definitely love laying out by a pool or at the beach on a hot summer day, but how can you keep your skin healthy during the time you’re catching rays?
Guide to healthy summer skin:
1. Hydrate! The most important thing of alll is to keep up with your water intake. “Sun Tired” may just be dehydration and if your laying out in the sun for a couple hours, water keeps your skin as plump as can be.
2. Sun Screen! Did you know that sunscreens that list “broad spectrum protection” protects you from both UVA and UVB rays? Choose a sunscreen with 30 or more SPF. Ladies, keep in mind that the UV rays from the sun damages your elastin fibers in the skin. This means that your skin begins to sag, and your more easily to bruise and tear. More sunscreen, less wrinkles!
3. If you are using any acne topical treatment, make sure you stop using it at least 2 days prior before laying out in the sun. It will cause inflammation, and have your skin look/act more sensitive
4. Vitamins! Increase your intake on vitamins A, C and E. These vitamins are great for cell growth, sun protection and repair!
5. You are what you eat! This expression couldn’t be more than true. To look good on the outside you have to fuel your body with the goods! Water, vegetables, fruits and good proteins are the key for great skin and increase antioxidant activity from the inside out
6. Don’t forget your lips! Use an SPF chapstick to hydrate your lips while protecting them from getting sunburn
Any other tips you have? We would love to hear them! Comment below!
